The “Alentejo series”

Working in collaboration with the contemporary art & design OJO Gallery for its grand opening and first exhibition in Lisbon, the “Alentejo series” was conceived as an ensemble of five "scenes" depicting the rural Alentejo region of Portugal.

Hand-embroidered on an antique linen fabric aged and yellowed by time, each scene distills with poetry and subtlety a wandering, placing the human and the animal, the shepherd, and his flock as miniaturist details in the overwhelming nature of these arid lands burned by the sun.

The delicate hand-embroidery work is framed by a natural wood frame crafted in Lisbon as "living paintings" that invite you to travel through its small window. The rough texture of the old linen and the finesse of the embroidery thread remain unprotected by the glass.
